AMPOL RECEIVES HUBZONE CERTIFICATION
American Pollution Control Corp. (AMPOL), the world's leading oil spill response and total environmental solutions provider, is now a HUBZone (Historically Underutilized Business Zone) certified contractor.
As AMPOL expands into new markets, such as railroad, industrial and governmental projects, the company hopes to win additional federal work, which will mean federal dollars for the Acadiana economy.
"Our recent move and HUBZone certification are good indicators for the area and industry that a small business is growing and moving forward," said Kirk Headley, CEO of AMPOL.
The HUBZone program, operated by the U.S. Small Business Administration, encourages economic development of small businesses in historically underutilized business zones. The HUBZone program anticipates 3 percent of all spending for federal contracts will be awarded to HUBZone contractors. To be eligible for certification, a company's primary office must be located in an underutilized zone; 35 percent of employees must live in that zone; and a majority interest in the company must be owned by a U.S. citizen, community development corporation, Indian tribe or agricultural cooperative.
AMPOL employs nearly 200 employees and offers oil spill response, tank cleaning, confined space entry services, naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) treatment and storage, lead and asbestos abatement services, insulation services, hazardous material (HAZ-MAT) emergency cleanup, soil remediation and demolition services.
