"On-site coordinator David Ariotti, who works as the Division of Environmental Quality district engineer in Carbon County, reported that crews are working to clean up about 420 gallons of black wax crude oil that spilled into Willow Creek as a result of the crash.
Most of the oil had burned off, Ariotti said. The remaining oil has solidified and is being caught up on banks, weeds and in pools, he said, noting that a check of the creek three miles downstream from the crash site showed no sign of contamination.
Willow Creek empties into the Price River about four miles from where Thursday's crash occurred at a point downstream from a drinking water treatment plant, "so there is no threat to the drinking water supply," Ariotti said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation." -
